Recommendation Letter for Students

If you ask me a recommendation letter, e-mail me at least 1 month prior to the deadline of your first application.

Importantly, I will not be able to write an effective and informative recommendation letter unless I know you well. The effectiveness of recommendation letter depends on the following three factors.

1. the student’s objective performance
2. how well I (recommender) know and evaluate the student
3. my credibility as a recommender

Even if you are an exellent student in terms of objective measures (such as GPA and class performance in specific courses), I might not be the best person who can effectively recommend you. In such case, I suggest you to ask other professors to write a letter.
